The Fishing Trip

We had quite the adventure on Friday. My Grandpa, mom, Kevin, Danny, Luke and I all piled into the car and drove out to Owhyee Reservoir to catch some fish. There were a few minor set backs. The water level was so low that the boat ramp was unusable so we decided to launch off of a rocky shore nearby. As soon as we drove off the boat ramp and onto the rocks, the boat trailer blew a tire. The boys tried to fix the flat tire, but that is impossible to do when the tool you have doesn't fit the lug nut. There were a couple of other trucks there with no one around (people don't lock their cars in Idaho) so Kevin decided to check the tool boxes, but no luck. We decided that we would get the boat into the water and fish while someone drove back to get the proper tool (keep in mind we are an hour and a half away from the house with and hour of that drive being a washboard dirt road). Just seconds before the boat would have been unhooked and in the water Kevin makes the discovery that the battery for the boat is gone. GREAT! So we all try to make the best of the situation. Grandpa and mom go back to house to get the items we need, Danny and Kevin strap some lifejackets around their legs and do a little fishing out in the water while Luke and I hang out under the canopy in the boat and take a few dips in the lake to stay cool (107 degrees that day!) When Mom made it back we were anxious to get out into the water. We had a great time fishing and stayed cool by jumping into the lake a few times. A storm looked like it was coming so after a couple hours of fishing we called it a day and went back to shore. Trying to get the boat out of water proved to be another problem. The truck was really having a hard time in the loose pebbles and wasn't able to pull the boat out. It took a LONG time and MANY attempts in different locations but eventually the boat was out of the water. Home free!!....or so we thought. The truck was trying to overheat so we drove through the rain with the windows down (which at this point felt very refreshing) and eventually got back onto the paved road. No sooner did we head down the highway than a tire popped on the truck!! So we pulled over and the boys pulled out the jack and got to work. My grandparents got very worried while they were sitting at home so they called my dad and my grandpa and dad drove out to try to find us. My mom, Luke and I drove back to the house with my Grandpa (in the nice air conditioned car) while the boys fixed the flat and eventually made it home. What an adventure. The best part was that for dinner we had fried zucchini (from the garden) and fried croppy caught with our own hands! THAT made the trip worth it!!
